With the arrest of 15 people, Delhi Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gambling syndicate in Sagarpur area of south-west district and seized more than Rs 10 lakh from the accused.

Acting on a tip-off that a gambling syndicate is being run at a house in West Sagarpur area by Vinod Gurjar and his associates, police raided the property and found several people gambling on the first floor of the residence, said DCP (South-West) R A Sanjeev.

The accused tried to run away with cash and other items, but were overpowered by the police team.

An amount of Rs 10,63,375 was recovered from the site along with other items such as playing cards and dices, following which an FIR was registered with Sagarpur police station.

A total of 15 people were arrested from the spot including kingpin Vinod Gurjar, Sanjeev said.

Gurjar, a history-sheeter from Fulwari in Haryana, was first arrested in a quarrel case and later in a few other cases under the Arms Act.

“Later on he started gathering youths for gambling and organised a syndicate with his associates. He was influenced by several Hindi films depicting a gambler as a hero and used his own house to host the gamblers. He had a vision to become the greatest gambler of Delhi,” the DCP said.
