Mahadayi agitators hoist separate statehood flag

Last Updated 11 November 2015, 18:55 IST

Having fed up with the indifference of the State and the Centre in solving Mahadayi river water sharing dispute, the farmers under the banner of Pakshateeta Raitha Horata Samiti, hoisted a separate statehood flag in front of Raitha Bhavan here on Wednesday.

The farmers, who had launched the agitation over three months back, expressed their displeasure over the lukewarm response of the State and the Centre in solving the long-pending dispute. The 10-day old agitation has failed to evoke any response from the authorities. So too, the roadblocks, bundhs, gheraos and non-co-operation movement have failed to wake up the State and the Centre. So, we have decided to take our agitation to next level. Our demand is ‘Mahadayi or separate statehood’. Hence, we hoisted separate statehood flag of North Karnataka, said farmers’ leaders Lokanath Hebsur.
