Sunanda viscera report rules out radioactive poisoning

Last Updated 11 November 2015, 19:55 IST
The Delhi Police have received a preliminary report of Sunanda Pushkar’s viscera samples from US Federal Bureau of Investigation which has ruled out death by polonium or any other radioactive substance. The samples were sent to a forensic laboratory of the FBI in February.

According to Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat, the FBI has sent the initial report through an e-mail. “We are yet to receive the entire report. Further course of action in the case will be taken as per the FBI’s opinion on the samples,” Bhagat said. The police say the entire report will throw light on the ‘poison’ that caused Sunanda’s death as concluded by a medical board of AIIMS. They hope both the viscera report and polygraph tests will give a direction to the probe in the high-profile case.

In February, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Prem Nath had personally handed over the viscera samples to the concerned FBI officials in the US.

This was the first time that the Delhi Police sent viscera sample abroad for forensic examination.

In January, the police had registered a case of murder nearly a year after the death of Sunanda – Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife. The investigating officers say that Sunanda was poisoned resulting in her unnatural death.
