Last Updated 13 November 2015, 21:10 IST

Chairperson of the committee on women and child safety, V S Ugrappa, has said the State government should make it mandatory for private security agencies to carry out background checks before recruiting security personnel.

Speaking to mediapersons in Bengaluru, Ugrappa said that he had paid a visit to Cubbon Park, where a woman was gang-raped by two security guards on Wednesday. The suspects, who are from Assam, were hired by Pavan Security and Detective Group, a private security agency run by a person named Keshavamurthy. He added that one of the suspects was working two jobs- he was working for the Income Tax department during the day and the Horticulture department at night, according to the police. He added that a majority of the accused in such cases hail from outside the State and hence it is very important to verify their credentials before they are employed.
