Law and order situation in district under control: DC

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada district is under control and no major untoward incidents have been reported.

Briefing mediapersons here on Saturday, he said that five persons have suffered injuries in seperate incidents reported in the district in the last two days and are being treated at the hospital.

The police have arrested culprits in connection with the stone pelting incident at Bunder area on Friday. Barring a few untoward incidents, the law and order situation in the district is by and large peaceful. The Section 144 will continue till 10 pm on November 15, he added.

“However, permission was granted for the inauguration of renovated Town Hall on Saturday, inspite of ban orders. Also, permission has been given to hold Yakshotsava Silveer Jubilee celebrations at Sampaje, but all religious and political meets have been banned. Any public meeting should get prior permission from Deputy Commissioner. Chief Secretary has sought a report on the law and order situation in the district,” he stated.

The DC also appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours especially on social media like WhatsApp and Facebook. The public can contact the police control room or the district administration for any  information. “ADGP (law and order) and ADGP (intelligence) are in the district monitoring the situation,” he added.

Stone pelting incident
Though no untoward incidents were reported till noon, reports of a few miscreants pelting stones at a bus travelling from Mangaluru to Someshwara on Saturday afternoon. A passenger by name Vijay has suffered injuries. In another incident, four unidentified miscreants reportedly assaulted one Iqbal in Ullal on Friday late night. The injured has been admitted to hospital in Mangaluru. The police have beefed up security in the region.

In a separate incident, a three member gang assaulted a man at Thanneerupantha on Friday night. The injured has been identified as Pradeep (32).

Uppinangady police have registered a case against 11 persons in connection with the assault at Golithottu during the bandh call given by VHP and Bajrang Dal, on Friday.
