Suggestions pour in to improve road connectivity to Whitefield

Last Updated 18 November 2015, 19:01 IST

A slew of suggestions to improve the Whitefield area by connecting the ‘missing road links’, proper planning of the Bangalore International Airport Area Development Authority, developing the Peripheral Ring Road and the master plan for the City were given during a presentation by urban experts to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday.

The presentation focused on the four areas that demand proper planning.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Ravichandar, an urban expert, said the key emphasis was on Whitefield where the roads lack proper connectivity.

To address the issue, he said private campuses of large residential complexes and tech-parks could be opened for public use. Whitefield is also suitable for commuter rail and
it could be accomplished in six months.

He said that the BMTC can increase its fleets of buses from the existing 6,500 buses to 10,000 to connect areas on the outskirts like Whitefield.

Regarding the Peripheral Ring Road, the experts agreed that developing a 65-km-long road would cost about Rs 11,000 crore and the government may find it difficult to invest such a huge amount.

It was suggested that the government invest in land pooling where landlosers would get better price for their land and the government would not have to spend anything for it.

About BIAAPA, Siddaramaiah was told that a master plan was prepared in 2009, but at least 40 per cent of it had been compromised. Whatever is left now, emphasis should be given to ecology.
