Last Updated 19 November 2015, 19:38 IST

In a dramatic development, media tycoon and former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea was arrested on Thursday night in the sensational murder of Sheena Bora

The arrest comes barely an hour after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a 1,000-page charge-sheet against Peter’s wife Indrani Mukerjea Bora, her first husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai.

“Yes…Peter Mukerjea has been arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case… this is what we can share now,” a CBI official from New Delhi told Deccan Herald.

However, when asked about his role and whether the charges remain the same, the official said: “We are not saying that….he has been arrested and being questioned.”
Peter, 58, once the poster boy among Indian TV media head honchos, is known for launching contents like superstar Amitabh Bachchan-hosted ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and soaps like ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahi Thi’.

He married Indrani, an HR professional-turned media executive, with whom he co-founded the INX Media Pvt Ltd and 9X Media, but later exited in 2009.

Sheena, Indrani’s daughter  with her first live-in partner Siddhartha Das, was in a live-in relationship with her step-brother Rahul Mukerjea, son of Peter.

Sheena, who was 24 at the time of her murder on April 24, 2012, was introduced by Indrani as her family member to others.

Sheena’s body was found in Pen taluka on May 23, 2012, 29 days after her murder.

However, no missing report or FIR was filed by Rahul. Sources said Peter would be questioned on various financial aspects, where the mystery seem to deepen every day.

He was arrested at around 8 pm from his Worli residence and taken to the CBI’s Western Region headquarters in south Mumbai. His son, Rahul, was also there.

However, the CBI denied his arrest or detention. It is likely that the father and son duo would be confronted.

At around 5:30 pm this evening, a CBI team formally filed the charge-sheet in the murder of Sheena and attempt to murder her brother Mikhail Bora.

The proceedings went on till around 6:30 pm.

The charge-sheet, running into around 1000 pages, was submitted in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate  R V Adone.

The charge-sheet includes statements of around 150 witnesses including Indrani’s son Mikhail Bora and her first live-in partner Siddhartha Das.

The charge-sheet was filed after the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) forensic report confirmed that the remains of the body found in Pen taluka in Raigad district  were those of Sheena.

The CBI has also recorded the statement of Rai under the provisions of section 164 of CrPC.

The charge-sheet was submitted within  90 days.

The first arrest in the case — that of Rai — was made on August 21.
