Last Updated 20 November 2015, 19:52 IST

The movement of vehicles on the busy Ballari Road was affected for more than two hours after a huge tree crashed down on Friday night.

The incident occurred around 8.10 pm near Air Force School HQTC which is close to Mekhri Circle. The incessant rains over the last one week had weakened the tree. “ It was a big tree and it blocked the entire road once it fell down. Movement of vehicles on both sides was just stopped,” said a policeman. The BBMP and Forest Department staff, in a joint operation, cleared the tree and facilitated movement of vehicles.

The situation was back to normal around 10.30 pm, said the police.

All roads in and around Mekhri Circle also witnessed the slow movement due to the incident, but Ballari Road was the worst affected. The vehicles stood in a long queue till Golf Club.

Traffic jams were also reported from Seshadripuram, KR Puram, Banaswadi, Indiranagar, Peenya, Sarjapur, Jalahalli, Kengeri, City Market, HSR Layout and Electronics City.
