Thieves gained entry into S K Goldsmiths Industrial Cooperative Society Limited and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs three crore, at Kinnigoli on Saturday.
The thieves gained entry through an under-construction building behind the society by breaking open the shutter. Three lockers have been opened using duplicate keys. Another locker was left untouched.
To ensure that no evidence is left behind, the thieves have taken away the CCTV camera and its hard disk. They also disconnected the power supply to the siren.
Customers from Kerekadu, Pakshikere, Guthikadu, Talipady who had kept their gold ornaments in the lockers came in large numbers on hearing the news of the theft and entered into an argument with the management of the society. The society authorities said that all the gold in the locker was insured and the customers need not worry. DCP Shantharaju, ACP Madan Gaonkar visited the spot. The police suspect the hand work of a professional gang in the burglary.
