Dodging the long waiting queues outside many eateries in Khan Market, we entered La Vie only to be greeted by cheerful music and smiling faces of the staff. Situated in the ever-bustling tony marketplace, La Vie is a quaint little place that offers calm.

Literally translating to ‘that’s life’, La Vie, the brainchild of entrepreneur Anirudh Gupta is a combination of delectable food and elegant decor. Known for its wood-fired thin crust pizzas and grill, the eatery also offers an array of soups, salads, pastas and to end a sumptuous culinary ride, desserts and even dessert pizzas!

All set for a gastronomic journey, the first thing we were offered was the Greek Salad, which was all about lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, grapes, olives, cucumber, nuts and a complementing sauce that accentuated the myriad flavours. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy, and most importantly, were right in amount. While it took a while before the order was served, we did not mind the wait as it was totally worth it. On asking about the delay, we were told that all orders were freshly prepared and hence it took time.

While waiting for our meal, we opted for La Vie Da, a concoction of lime, oregano and jalapenos, and Peppery Mojito, which was a spicy take on the good old mojito with fresh lime, mint and pepper. While all we could taste was oregano in La Vie Da, the mojito was refreshing and soothing to the palate. Next up was Mushroom and Spinach Vol-au-Vent - where the oven-baked puffed pastry or vol-au-vent was heartily filled with an herb-flavoured stuffing of spinach, mushroom and ricotta and was served with a marinara dip. Extremely tender, the appetizer simply melted in our mouths, leaving behind a lingering savoury taste.

Still enjoying the aftertaste, and we were served  Penne with mixed vegetables in pink sauce — an interesting blend of the red and the white sauces. While the taste of the sauce was inclining towards Arrabbiata (sauce) — the pasta was nicely seasoned, and was a nice blend of the flavours. And then, finally came the much-awaited pizza which was divided into half – Meat Lovers and Greek God’s.

While the vegetarian pizza was sprinkled with spinach, bell peppers, olives, capers and feta, its non-vegetarian counterpart had a hearty dose of ham, barbecued chicken and mozzarella spread on a lamb Bolognese spread. And without a doubt, the dish won over its predecessor hands down. The right amount of crust thinness, fresh vegetables and meat toppings coupled with an interesting variety of oils and sauces ended the meal on a perfect note.
