A 36-year-old branch head of an insurance company in south Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave has been accused of stalking and harassing a 33-year-old married woman on the pretext of giving her promotion. The accused is yet to be arrested.

The matter came to light on Tuesday when the woman made a call to the police control room after she was allegedly harassed in front of the office staff. She told police that Amit Dewan, the accused, used to stalk her since the day she joined the company as Development Manager.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, she alleged that Dewan wanted to develop physical relationship with her and when she refused, he started harassing her. He also gave her an offer that he will give her a promotion if she fulfils his demands else he will get her transferred.

In the complaint to police, she wrote that initially she had verbally complained to the HR department about the harassment but to no avail. Further she wrote two mails to the HR complaining about the torture and molestation incidents after which they ensured her that she will be put to work under someone else to avoid her reporting to Dewan.

In her complaint, she added that on Tuesday, when she went to office, two women who work under Dewan started fighting with her for no reason and Dewan was recording the act on his phone. According to the victim, he was planning a counter strategy to save himself from the any potential case against him.

But the woman ran out of the office and informed her husband and brother about the incident. After they arrived, she made a call to the PCR who took her to Safdarjung police station.

A case under the section of 354(D) (stalking) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered with Safdarjung police station.

Police are trying to arrest the accused by raiding his known hideouts. Police are also talking to the employees and friends of Dewan and CCTV cameras are also being scanned to find out more clues related to the incident.
