For a colourful Christmas

The annual ‘United Charities Bazaar 2015’ is all ready to return. A unique gathering of charities from all over India, this ‘Christmas Bazaar’ will be held on December 5 at Corporation Playgrounds, Opposite St Charles School, Lingarajapuram Main Road.

This was an idea formulated over a cup of coffee over 40 years ago. It soon gathered momentum and changed the lives of so many people through.

The ‘Bazaar’ or the ‘Bowring Sale’ (since its humble beginnings at the Bowring Club), is colourful and has over a hundred charities and NGOs come together and put up stalls to raise funds for their respective causes.

The ‘Bazaar’ opens to a flurry of sights, sounds and tastes in order to help the underprivileged through a sale that includes everything from handicrafts and Christmas decor, table linen and T-shirts, homemade jams and jellies, pickles and pies, cakes and cookies and much more. The event is promoted by proVISION INDIA, a Bangalore-based NGO focussed on rural development, training and setting up self-sustainability projects for unemployed youth and women across the country. It has been growing in size, adding over 20 charitable organisations to its list each year.

“The ‘Bazaar’ really kick-starts the festive mood and we love this sale. We buy a lot of unique things here that we don’t normally get to see at other sales,” says a regular visitor. “I’ve been attending for over 20 years now and just can’t get enough,” she adds.

“The deprived have to be taught how to fend for themselves and our endeavour, along with the other NGOs that participate, is to facilitate this process,” says Stephen Dass, the organiser of the ‘Bazaar’. “We hope that more and more people join hands and make this a movement we can take to other cities across the country,” he adds. The ‘Bazaar’ will be open from 10 am to 6 pm.
