Improving road network and creating more green spaces in the City will be the focus of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), which has started the process of revising Master Plan-2031 once again.

The latest revision, the third one, BDA says is the need of the hour, especially after assessing the pace at which the City is growing.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, BDA town planning member T Chowdegowda said updating the master plan would help develop the City better. He said that the process of revising the plan had started already.

“Once it is completed, public opinion will be called for in March-April 2016. The BDA is working on four key areas - improving road network and road elevation, introducing advanced technologies to ensure there is no flooding, regulate drainage system and create around 10 huge parks on the City outskirts, like Lalbagh and Cubbon Park. Tenders for revising master plan will soon be called for. The process of identifying land to create parks will also start.

The BDA’s prime focus is to improve connectivity. According to officials, the road network is narrow in existing areas and in upcoming areas as per preliminary plan. It is not catering to the traffic influx. So, the department is proposing road widening, creating flyovers and underpasses in many existing areas. In case of new areas, we are planning to have more roads and wider junctions connecting larger roads.

The BDA is said to be discussing many permutations and combinations presently and are seeking suggestions and inputs from experts. They are also assessing the various technologies being used in India and globally for improving infrastructure and housing projects. BDA had earlier revised the Master Plan 2035 as Master Plan 2031. Later, Master Plan 2031 was revised based on feedback they had obtained from the public.
