The Subramanyanagar police arrested a 39-year-old maid and her accomplice for robbing her employer’s house after giving the family members coffee laced with sedatives.

According to the police, the arrested have been identified as Kathyayini alias Ganga alias Janani and her accomplice Thoufiq alias Suhail Ahmed (21), both natives of Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu. About 300 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh have been recovered from the duo.

The police said Kathyayini was employed as a maid-cum-cook by Kanthi, a resident of Gayathri Nagar. On October 7, she gave coffee laced with sedatives to Kanthi, his wife and their children.

After they consumed the coffee, they lost consciousness. Kathyayini made away with the gold valuables and fled to her native place along with her daughter and Thoufiq.

After gaining conciousness, Kanthi found the almirah broken open and noticed the gold valuables missing. He informed the police, who gathered information about Kathyayini and started an investigation. With some help from the Tamil Nadu police, they traced her to Nagapattinam and arrested Kathyayini and Thoufiq, the police said.

During investigations, the police found that Kathyayini and Thoufiq had a murder and an attempt to murder cases registered against them in Chennai.

They had murdered one Parthasarathy by pushing him out of a moving train. There was also another case of attempt to murder, as they had tried to poison a woman in Neelankarai police station in Chennai. She was absconding and had multiple warrants pending against her, the police said.
