Salman was drunk: Prosecution

Last Updated 01 December 2015, 18:35 IST

Bollywood actor Salman Khan was drunk at the time he dashed his Toyota Land Cruiser Lexus at Bandra suburbs 14 years ago, the prosecution on Tuesday told the Bombay High Court citing the testimony of eye-witnesses and biological evidence.

“There is evidence of Salman Khan going into the bar, where he was served liquor. Besides, an independent witness had smelled his breath and we have the chemical analyser’s report,” government pleader and chief public prosecutor Sandeep Shinde told Justice A R Joshi, who is hearing the appeal of the 49-year-old actor in the drunken-driving and hit-and-run case.

Shinde, during the course of hearing, dealt with the evidence of PW-20 (Dr  Shashikant Janardan Pawar, medical officer at JJ Hospital) and PW-18 (Dattatray Khobrajirao Bhalshankar, chemical analyser at Forensic Science Laboratory-Kalina).

Shinde, however, admitted that there may have been “some anomalies”, but said that it does not affect the end results in any way.

Senior defence counsel Amit Desai countered him, saying: “The entire chain of custody (of the blood samples) is a matter of serious debate.”
