Prosecution wraps up Salman Khan case

As the prosecution wrapped up its case against Salman Khan on Thursday, it reiterated that the actor had consumed alcohol and was behind the wheels of the Toyota Land Cruiser Lexus that crashed into pavements killing one person and injuring four others,14 years ago.

“We have presented credible witnesses to establish our case that Salman Khan had consumed alcohol at the Rain Bar & Restaurant, then went to the JW Marriott Hotel at Juhu and while coming back dashed his car into the pavements at A1 Bakery-American Laundry at Bandra…it was he, who was responsible for the accident,” government pleader and chief public prosecutor Sandeep Shinde said.

However, senior counsel Amit Desai, who is the defence lawyer of Khan, said that there were several discrepancies since the beginning.

“The prosecution has presented false witnesses which is why most of them have turned slippery at some point during the trial,” Desai said.

Justice A R Joshi, who is hearing the appeal of Salman Khan against his conviction and five-year jail term by the Mumbai Sessions Court, would start dictating his order soon.

Shinde said that independent prosecution witnesses, such as the manager at Rain Bar, the doctor at JJ Hospital who took Khan’s blood samples, and the chemical analyser who analysed these samples, had established that Khan had consumed alcohol that night and thus, had been driving his Toyota Land Cruiser under the influence of alcohol.
