Two men held for theft, 13 kg sandalwood recovered

The HSR Layout police have arrested two persons and seized 13 kilogram of sandalwood.

The arrested have been identified as Murugesh (32) and Ruben (32), both natives of Tamil Nadu.

The police have recovered sandal wood logs weighing 13 kilogram and worth several lakhs of rupees, along with saw and other equipment which the two used to fell the trees.


Their arrest has helped the police solve three cases of sandalwood theft, two of which were registered in HAL and one in Madiwala police station, said the police.
Based on a tip-off, the police arrested the duo who were moving around suspiciously in HSR Layout.

They used to come to the City and carry out a recce to spot sandalwood trees.

After making an observation, they would go back to their state and return with few more people.

They would find a suitable tree and cut it down into small logs and pack them in gunny bags. They would go back to Tamil Nadu and sell the wood at a high price.
The two confessed to the police that they were initiated into sandalwood theft by their fathers and grandfathers.

Th duo are being interrogated further to track the others involved in the racket, the police said.
