<p>A 35-year-old robber has been arrested after an encounter with police in outer Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar on Friday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Amit Kumar was wanted in an armed robbery of Rs 9 lakh, police said.<br /><br />Amit and his accomplices had robbed a Prashant Vihar-based businessman having a rice godown at Siraspur on October 18.<br /><br />The businessman was returning home after receipt of payments in his Maruti Swift.<br />“The gang waylaid him in a Hyundai i20 near Libaspur underpass and robbed his bag containing Rs 9 lakh at gunpoint,” said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer). A case was filed with Samaypur Badli police station.<br /><br />On October 25, a man named Mohan, involved in the case, was arrested with Rs 38,000 of the looted amount. <br /><br />During interrogation, he told police about providing information about the cash being transported to Amit, Pradeep and Sandeep.<br /><br />Sandeep was arrested in Rohini sector 19 and Rs 1.75 lakh of the looted amount was recovered at his instance on November 11.<br /><br />“On Friday, a secret information was received about Amit and Pradeep,” Singh added.<br /><br />At 4.45 am, a police team intercepted a Maruti WagonR on Dharamshala Road in Swaroop Nagar. They tried to flee, but were chased and cornered in a narrow lane.<br /><br />“The gang damaged a number of vehicles parked there in a bid to escape. They finally decided to abandon the car and tried to escape on foot,” Singh said.<br /><br />Pradeep opened fire at the police team after Amit instigated him. Head constable Ved Prakash and constable Sandeep escaped unhurt and managed to overpower Amit.<br /><br />Pradeep and another gang member named Guddu managed to flee.<br /><br />Due to the firing, a case under Indian Penal Code and Arms Act has been registered with Swaroop Nagar police station.<br /><br />Amit told police that they had recently purchased the WagonR with the robbed money.<br /></p>
