Purnabramha’, an authentic Maharashtrian restaurant in HSR Layout, started as a home-based catering service to promote a healthy lifestyle for people.

It was Jayanti Kathale, a techie turned entrepreneur, who was the brain behind it. The exteriors of the restaurant resemble a high-end, fancy fine dining restaurant which is in complete contrast to the traditional and warm atmosphere inside.

The first floor seating is the traditional ‘baithak’, where people have their meals sitting on cushions laid on the floor, with a low table in front of them. Water is served in a small steel pot and glass to offer a rustic flavour. There is also a play area with instruments for children.

The restaurant has quite a variety in the Maharashtrian  cuisine itself!  It has items that is specific to Raigad, Sholapur, Pandharpur, Ganagapur, Devalgaon Raja, Vidarbha, and Kolhapur — from Monday to Sunday. Snacks from trademark ‘sabudana vada’ with peanut-curd-chilli chutney and ‘pohe’, to ‘vada pav’ and ‘misal-pav’ as well as crispy ‘moong-dal vada’ are offered.

The ‘thali’ is as diverse as the state itself. The main course comprises ‘phulka’ and ‘thalipeeth’, served with an array of ‘sabji’ and ‘kadi’. ‘Dal kandha’ (‘channa dal’ cooked with onion paste), ‘moong dal kichdi’, the ‘metkut’ powder, mango pickle, ‘thecha’, ‘koshimbir’ and ‘shengdana’ chutney are the other favourites. The trademark Marathi dish is the warm ‘puran poli’ served with ghee which is the cherry on the ‘thali’ when had as dessert. There is also a takeaway menu which comprises wholesome meals such as rice and roti combos, ‘shrikhanda puri bhaji’, onion ‘bhaji’ and ‘zhunkar bhakar’ combo.
