Pomp and gaiety marks Kalabhairava Utsav

The annual fair, dedicated to the Lord Kalabhairava, at Kakotuparambu near Virajpet ended on Thursday.

Religious rituals, such as ablution of the God’s idol was performed on the banks of River Cauvery. Later, the celebrations ended with Peeliyatu at the temple.

Maratha Tere and Mudi Tere were held on December 15. A Bhandara procession was taken out from Ammandira family of Tonuru Keri to the temple. The idol of the presiding deity was specially ornamented for the occasion.

People from Hemmadu, Pandimadu, Mugooru and Tonooru gathered at the temple in the morning. The traditional customs such as Irulu Belaku, Bolkat, Devara Darshana and others were also performed.

Religious rituals

On the second day, Bolkat and Chende Vadya Sevas were offered in the morning. A horse, made of canes, brought from Pemmadu Keri, an umbrella and a Chowri from Muguru Keri were offered to the Lord. Later, the devotees had a glimpse of the deity.

In the evening, the procession idol of the deity was taken on in a revolving path around the sacred fig tree. Chamundi Kola was also held on the occasion.

The Devara Kattu ritual was held 15 days earlier to the day of the fair. After the ritual, consumption of non-vegetarian dishes and alcohol is prohibited in the region till the end of the fair. Devotees took part in the fair and religious rituals with the traditional Kodava attire.
