Govt residence for Swamy on security grounds

Last Updated 18 December 2015, 19:08 IST

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy was on Friday provided with government accommodation in central Delhi on security grounds.

“The government has decided to allot accommodation to former Union minister Subramanian Swamy on security considerations, while allowing former Punjab DGP K P S Gill and chairman of Anti-Terrorism Front M S Bitta to retain government accommodation on the same grounds,” sources said.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has been allowed to retain the government accommodation in New Delhi on medical grounds, whereas Prasar Bharati chairman A Surya Prakash would also be provided with government accommodation.

These decisions were taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation (CCA), headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Sources said the CCA took into consideration that Swamy is a Z-Category protectee with Central Reserve Police Force cover and there is no place at his present residence for deployment of armed guards.

His security is being reviewed from time to time by the Security Categorisation Committee in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
