Sagar Hospitals will soon launch its first Centre of Excellence in minimal access cardiac surgery, heart failure surgery and transplantation.

Addressing a press conference, the hospital’s doctors said the centre was aimed at providing quality health care at affordable cost. It will also create awareness about various treatment options for heart failure.

The doctors also announced the joining of Dr Mohammed Rehan Sayeed, a pioneer in minimal access cardiac surgery in India. He is credited with conducting the single largest series of minimal access cardiac surgery – over 3,000 cases which make him a leader in the field.

Dr Sayeed said, “The centre at Sagar Hospitals aims at identifying heart patients and optimising medical management. We can offer a range of therapies along with expertise in artificial heart transplant. The centre will also focus exclusively on paediatric heart surgeries.”

Dr Sayeed has mentored many cardiac surgeons in India and abroad. He will now lead the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Sagar Hospitals, Tilaknagar, along with Dr Benedict Raj, a senior paediatric cardiac surgeon, and Dr Somaraj, cardiac anaesthetist.
