Newly promoted Sports Authority of India (SAI) put up a spirited performance to rally from a goal down and hold Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) to a 1-1 draw in the opening game of the BDFA Super Division league here on Monday.

SAI had themselves to blame for the draw as they let DYES dominate the proceedings in the initial period. And it was no surprise that it was DYES who got their noses ahead in the seventh minute.

Making the most of a sloppy move by their opponents, Natish made inroads ito the SAI half and sent in a well measured cross from the left. Though goalkeeper Premchand Singh tried to punch away the danger, it was not enough as Annappa pounced on the ricochet to tap in the opening goal of the league.

Down by a goal, SAI regrouped quickly and went close to drawing parity many times and finally drew level just before the half time whistle.

It was Sundareshan who did all the hard work on the right to set up Rajkiran. And the striker was up to the task as he nodded in the equaliser.

Results: Super Division: DYES: 1 (Annappa 7th) drew with SAI: 1 (Rajkiran  45th).
‘A’ Division: Bangalore Eagles: 1 (Kiran R 81st) bt Jawahar Union: 0.
