'Every child has a right to life'

Addressing a news conference organised by District Legal Service Authority at Court complex on Friday, he said that every person below the age of 18 years is provided with right to health, nutritious food and right to be safe from atrocities, harassment and violence.

He said that a jatha is being held in Madikeri, Somwarpete and Virajpet taluks to spread awareness on child rights from May 25 onwards by District Legal Service Authority, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Labour Department and other voluntary organisations, as per the directions of State Legal Service Authority and High Court Judge Gopal Gowda.

A state-level convention on child rights will be organised in Shimoga, which will be attended by former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam.

Labour Officer K L Ravi Kumar said that 25 child labourers have been identified in the district in the last six years.

Of which, 17 cases have been solved and the remaining 5 cases are pending at the court.
