Ayodhya on alert after display of Babri Masjid model

Last Updated 24 December 2015, 19:22 IST
Open display of a model of the Babri Masjid on a busy road in a muslim-dominated locality which is very close to the Ram Janamabhoomi complex in Ayodhya prompted a quick response from the police and local administration.

Acting swiftly, the local officials removed the plate on the replica displaying the words “Babri Masjid”. They had to face opposition from local muslim youths, who staged a demonstration in front of the Ram Janamabhoomi police station, according to the police sources.

Police officials said a Muslim organisation had on Wednesday evening displayed a model of Babri Masjid on a stage erected on one of the main thoroughfares in Quaziana locality in Ayodhya during a religious function. The model, which was made of thermocol, had a plate displaying the words “Babri Masjid”.

Police officials said the replica might have been put up for display by the youths and that the local Muslimleaders, including the oldest Ayodhya litigant Hashmi Ansari, had no information about the same.

“We can not allow such a display in public...it may lead to law and order problem,” said a senior police official in Ayodhya on Thursday. The VHP office at Karsevakpuram in Ayodhya had a model of the proposed Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
