Some killer shots at throwaway prices

Last Updated 30 December 2015, 17:38 IST

Café Dalal Street (CDS) is a new bar in town. This restaurant is based on the concept of stock exchange. Brainchild of two youngsters from financial background, Himanshu and Vidit Gupta, the place has given Delhites not just a regular bar but also something interesting to play around with.

It is based on the modus operandi of any stock exchange, wherein the thrill of trading is palpable albeit through cocktails and not shares. True to its name, CDS has screens all over the pub where one can see the prices of drinks going up and down and then invest/order accordingly.

And sometimes the market crashes too, allowing you to sip single malts and the cocktails at throwaway prices. Something like this can only be felt and not described.

Cafe Dalal Street sprawls over a huge area of 5,000 sq feet with a seating capacity of around 150 people and prime Central Delhi location, the restaurant features an innovative multicuisine menu. Coming from the stock exchange bar concept in Mumbai, the ambience is a depiction of Dalal Street in Mumbai.

A spectacular terrace overlooking some of the most prominent buildings of Connaught Place adds a zing to the entire place. Especially with winters around the corner, the open air seating is one of the best thing CDS has to offer.

Quirky-named drinks like Bankrupt, Bull Chaser, Invested, The Wolf Punch, The Deal Closer and Zombie Street are good for trial. Also, the cocktail menu for ladies and the ‘Killer Shots’ dominate the drinking menu.

Taking a look at the food menu of CDS one will find a range of monikers of food which will intrigue one to try them all. The menu is elaborate. To start with soups you will have varied options to chose from like Minestrone, Tamatar Dhaniya ka Shorba, Khao Suey along with the array of fresh salads like Fatoush, Goat cheese salad and Thai sea food noodle salad with peanut sauce.

The combination of veg and non-veg starters like Moulin port, walnut and blue cheese spread with caper bread (blue cheese and roasted walnut spread, served with in- house caper bread) and Angels on horseback with remoulade (prawns wrapped with
bacon serve with remoulade) will definitely tickle your taste buds.

The non-veg main course has some newly conceptualised dishes like Oatmeal and herb crusted lamb steak, Drunken Chicken (Tender chicken, olive oil, garlic and stewed tomatoes cooked in beer and Cajun spices served with rice), Pan fried Tilapia fish with Calamari, Seafood Etouffee (creamy golden roux served with celery onion and peppers with rice).

For vegetarians Café Dalal Street has a variety of lip-smacking dishes on the menu like –Parmizana di melanzane (classic northern Italian that serves aubergines by layering them with parmesan and tomatoes) and Grilled polenta cakes (brie, tomato fondue, charred spinach, cottage cheese steak).

Far beyond this, CDS also has a selection of pastas, pizzas, burgers, along with ‘Bar Bites’. To sweeten your taste buds a little you can try some really good Pineapple Cheesecake and Green Lime Flan or a Red Velvet Cake.
