<p>Home Minister G Parameshwara assured inmates at the Central Prisons in Parappana Agrahara that measures will be taken to release prisoners based on their good conduct.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Speaking to inmates and prison staff on the occasion of New Year on Friday, Parameshwara said that he would try his best to release inmates who have conducted themselves in a good manner. <br /><br />Parameshwara greeted inmates and distributed sweets. He also visited various cells in the prison and received updates about the basic amenities available.<br /><br /> ADGP (Prisons) Kamal Pant told the minister that the police department has identified inmates whose conduct had been good. A list of 130 inmates has already been made for release on January 26, he added.<br /><br /> Parameshwara told mediapersons that there were a few problems faced by the staff and the inmates and take steps will be taken to address them. <br /><br />“Facilities such as canteen and leave allowance would be extended to jailors, sub-inspectors and other staff in the prison. The Home Department is facing shortage of staff and there are plans to recruit about 8,000 candidates shortly,” he said.<br /><br />The prison’s authorities received information about Parameshwara’s visit at around 7 am. <br />He was received by senior officials at around 9.45 am.<br />DH News Service</p>
