Governor Vajubhai Vala on Monday said he would suggest to the Union government to replicate Karnataka’s health care model across the country.

He was speaking after inaugurating the new Medical Imaging and Speciality Diagnostic Laboratory Service at the state-run KC General Hospital.

Vala said he would also urge the Centre to ensure that affordable education and medical services were available to everyone.

“SCs, STs and OBCs are being given facilities at subsidised rates. I would propose the same for APL families, too,” he said.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader said that 14 other districts in Karnataka would have the facility in the first phase. He said the Speciality Diagnostic Laboratory Services at the hospital would work round the clock.

The facility will have CT scan, haematology, biochemistry, microbiology and other services. Dr Manjunath, Medical Superintendent, K C General Hospital, said that diagnostics would be offered at a nominal charge. “One out of every 10 Below Poverty Line (BPL) patients will get a free CT scan,” he added. Besides inpatients, those from private hospitals can also make use of the facility.
