The High Court on Wednesday gave more time to the State government to file a report on the number of criminal cases pending before its Directorate of Prosecution and Government Litigation, the number of cases under investigation and the number of cases disposed of.

Hearing a criminal petition, Justice A N Venugopala Gowda found many errors in the report submitted by the government on the number of pending cases and gave it time till January 19 to file a proper report.

In a report on two districts, the government had said that more than 1,000 cases were pending. But verification by the court found that more than 900 cases had been disposed of and just 50 cases were pending. Similarly, many case were found to be under investigation for more than seven years.
