Inspector suspended for shielding suspects

A police inspector and a sub-inspector, both attached to Hebbal police station, were suspended for trying to protect a suspect in a dowry harassment case.

The PI Nagaraj and the SI Vedavathi were recently suspended as the charges against them were proved during the departmental inquiry.

A woman had lodged a dowry harassment complaint against her husband in 2014 at the Hebbal police station, but the case was not properly investigated.

Departmental inquiry
The police inspector and the sub-inspector tried to delay the investigation as they wanted to protect the suspect.

The complainant approached the then Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Prathap Reddy and lodged a complaint against the officers. The Additional Commissioner of Police had ordered for a departmental inquiry, said the police.

The departmental inquiry established the charges against the officers in question and an order was issued suspending them on December 28, 2015, added the police.
