Advertisers accuse Palike of 'partiality'

The members of the Karnataka Rajya Jaahirathu Phalakadarara Association on Tuesday complained that the BBMP no longer permits the association to put up advertisements in the Palike limits and is instead favouring the influential.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, president of the association, Vijay said since 2007, the Palike has not granted permission for hoardings. “On the other hand, they are allowing influential persons to put up the same on the roads and the footpaths. At the same time, they talk of suffering revenue loss from advertisements.”

The association has 200 members and most of them are advertisers. They said the association would go on strike if the BBMP indulges in blame games and continues to not permit advertisements. They added that since July 2015, the Palike has failed to collect tax from them.

“We are ready to pay taxes to the civic agency. If the agency collects tax efficiently every year, they can make profits to the tune of Rs 100 crore,” said Vijay.

The association members also condemned the BBMP for introducing an online system to seek permission for advertisements. “Most of us do not know how to use the online system. Moreover, the system is always prone to technical glitches and is an elaborate process,” said the members.
