The issue has been debated over a long period now, and while a group of news channels formed the News Broadcasters Association sometime back, it has not been able to fully meet the requirements as a large number of channels are not yet its members.
Also, the first time it tried to impose a self-regulatory fine on India TV, one of its members, the channel quit the grouping protesting the fine.

Soni refused to comment on the ongoing feud between Prasar Bharati board members and CEO B S Lalli saying the matter was sub judice.
