Karnataka is set to receive 221 MW of power from the Kudankulam nuclear power plant, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu,  from mid February.

Energy minister D K Shivakumar had announced that the power supply would start on January16. According to a senior official of  Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, there was a delay in commissioning the plant due to technical reasons.

Now it has been communicated that supply will start from mid-February. Once this happens, it will be an addition and a boon to the State, said the official. However, he also clarified that there was no shortage of power in the State. Adding to this, Technical Director at Bescom, Nagesh, said Karnataka gets 8,500 MW power and Bescom receives 50 per cent of this supply.

The State will get 8,000 MW from Yeramaras thermal power plant by February-end and another 700 MW from phase-3 of the Ballari Thermal Power Station, a Bescom official said.
