The Principal of a CBSE school said she has been making repeated calls to the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) office to enquire about the CET 2010 brochure cum application, but in vain.

“Every year about 120 students from the school appear for CET. As most students are from Karnataka they stand a good chance to select professional courses from institutions within the State. In the previous two years decision on the number of seats in professional courses and fee structure were announced by January, but this year there is seems to be no information about the same,” the principal said. Officials from KEA agreed that paucity of time had affected the functioning of the authority.

“By February first week the KEA would have received DDs from colleges. But this year, one and half months have already elapsed. However, with only two months left there will be tremendous pressure on the KEA to meet the deadline,” an official rued.

Need 2 more months

“The KEA requires at least one month’s time to complete the biometrification process. There will be an acute shortage of time, as the printing of CET 2010 brochure cum application is yet to begin. Receiving filled applications from colleges and students and starting the biometrification process along with students’ data collection of students will require at least two months,” the official said.

The private college managements have decided to seek the chief minister’s consent as they are unable to arrive at a consensus about fee hike and a flexible seat-sharing formula.

Both the State government and the management of private colleges have failed to arrive at a concrete decision despite holding three rounds of discussion.

However, a delegation of private college management will meet Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to facilitate the arriving at a consensus for the benefit of stakeholders.
According to the announcement made by Higher Education Department, the CET 2010 has been scheduled to be conducted on April 28 and 29. The Kannada language CET for Gadinadu and Horanadu students will be held on April 30.
