Amazon India on Wednesday reported that its Great Indian Sale (GIS) has turned out to be the biggest sales event ever, compared with the previous Great Indian Festive Sale, during Diwali last year — with mobile emerging the number one product sold.

In a statement, Amazon India said that its Great Indian Sale was three times bigger than the previous year’s Republic Deals Parade hosted between January 23-26, 2015.

Amazon Fashion registered a growth that was three times the Republic Day sale recorded in January, last year. Mobile and apparel emerged as the first and second-most sold category, respectively, during the Great Indian Sale 2016.

The company received more than 65 per cent orders from outside of the top eight metros. The top non-metro cities include Pune, Jaipur, Thane, Patna, Surat and Nagpur. The traffic on mobile continued to be 70 per cent. The Amazon Shopping app became the number one shopping App on iOS and Android platforms.

Besides, categories witnessing growth up to 9X, as compared with their daily run rate, the sales of all categories have registered over 200 per cent increase in comparison with last year’s January sale.

The fastest selling product on the sale was “Instapower Base E27 9-Watt LED Bulb (Cool Day Light and Pack of 2)” which was 100 per cent claimed in seconds, and sold out completely in 13 minutes.

On the first day of the Great India Sale, Amazon Fashion surpassed the last biggest day of the October 2015 Diwali sale, on the website.

The top five products sold were casual shoes, running shoes, men’s T-shirts, sarees and kurtas.
