Sub-inspector caught on cam taking bribe

Two policemen, including a sub-inspector who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe, have been suspended from duty.

Sub-inspector Narayana Gowda of Vijayanagar traffic police station was caught on camera while accepting a bribe from a person who was seeking permission to park vehicles in front of his hotel.

Gowda was caught during a sting operation conducted by a vernacular TV channel, said the police.

The video clip was aired on local television channels and was brought to the notice of senior police officers, who verified the footage and suspended the sub-inspector, said a police official.

In another case, a police constable from Chickpet station was suspended for assaulting a shopkeeper near Kempegowda bus station on Wednesday.

Complaint lodged

According to the police, constable Mahantesh was suspended after he assaulted and threatened a shopkeeper for money. A worker at the shop, who witnessed the incident, approached the police and lodged a complaint against Mahantesh.

Mahantesh had threatened to file a false complaint against the shopkeeper if he failed to pay him money. Mahantesh was suspended after an internal enquiry was conducted.
