The University of Mysore (UoM) Professor B P Mahesh Chandra Guru, on Thursday, made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani and used unparliamentary words over the death of Rohith Vermul, a Dalit PhD scholar, and said that his death was a State-sponsored murder.

Delivering a talk during ‘Vycharika Kidi’, a programme to commemorate the death of V Rohith and a session on ‘Condition of Dalit, Backward, Minority students in Universities’, organised by Dalit Vidyarthi Okkutta (DVO) at the Humanities Block, UoM, here, Guru said, the HRD Ministry has written five letters to Hyderabad Central University Vice Chancellor P Appa Rao asking him to take action against Rohith and thus he was suspended from the institution.

“The HRD minister was a medicore actress and Modi should not have given her the HRD Ministry,” Guru commented. “If Modi has guts, let him remove Smriti Irani and Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya from his Cabinet. Irani, Dattatreya and Appa Rao should be booked under Atrocity Act. They should be put behind bars,” he said.

“Rohith was a great and a brilliant student with huge knowledge. He had a dream to become a science communicator and he had cleared the test for Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) fellowship,” said Guru.

Describing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government as ‘National Destruction Alliance’, Guru said, Modi was making the country weak and was trying to make Indians slaves of foreign nations by inviting them to invest in the country. “Modi became prime minister because of our foolishness. We need a self-respecting prime minister,” he said.

“For sustainable development of the nation, citizens need life, health, education, job and food security. The Union government has failed to ensure them,” he pointed out.

‘Looters can become VC’

“Being a vice chancellor, I don’t want to loot money. I don’t have any children to make money. Only the worst kind of looters can become VCs. Kuvempu developed the University of Mysore (UoM) but, ‘Kuvempu Bhajan Mandali’ is controlling it,” he commented.

Earlier, addressing the gathering Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike State president K S Shivaramu said, Mahesh Chandra Guru had all the qualities to be the VC of UoM. Writer and professor K S Bhagawan and others were present.
