The accused, Kumar, a resident of Kurubarahalli, came to Bangalore and settled down with his wife a few years ago. He is originally from Belagola in Mandya district.

A week ago, Kumar’s wife, who was carrying, went to her parent’s house. The very next day after her departure, Kumar met Meena (45), who had parted ways with her husband, in a bar in Kanteeravanagar.

Both got drunk and spent the night in Kumar’s house. Meena stayed on at Kumar’s place for the next three days. Kumar told his house owner that she was his distant relative.

On May 27 night, the pair came home drunk. Meena demanded Rs 2,000 from Kumar and he refused saying he didn’t have the money.

When she pressed for money, Kumar flew into a rage and allegedly strangulated her with her saree.

A distraught Kumar then left for work, locking the house with the dead body inside. He did not return home that day and, instead, met some friends and confided his sordid tale to them. On their advice, he decided to surrender to the police.

Even as he was on his way to the police station, his house owner grew suspicious as foul smell emanated from the house. The owner broke open the door and discovered the body.

Just as the owner landed in the police station, tenant Kumar also reached there, Mahalakshmi Layout police, who registered the complaint, said.
