Modi in Coimbatore today ahead of polls

Last Updated 01 February 2016, 20:30 IST
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Coimbatore on Tuesday is expected to bolster Tamil Nadu BJP ahead of the Assembly polls due in May.

Arriving in the textile city Tuesday afternoon, Modi will address a public meeting in the evening, besides launching the party’s poll campaign in the state. Though the official reason for the PM’s visit is to inaugurate Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College at Varadharajapuram near Singanallur, it is significant since the state will go to polls just over three months from now. This would be Modi’s first visit to the cotton city as Prime Minister. He was in the city in 2014 after being declared the BJP’s PM candidate for the Lok Sabha polls.

Tamil Nadu unit has also prepared a report on prospective poll alliance and the state leadership is likely to submit it to Modi.
