HC notice to State, Central pollution boards

The High Court on Thursday ordered notice to the Central and State pollution control boards, in a petition filed by the occupants of Prestige Shantiniketan apartment on Whitefield Road, Hoodi, seeking directions to the boards to take measures to remove all the noise generating sources, including air chillers/coolers, water chillers/coolers and diesel generators, at a building located in close proximity.

The petitioners Anshul Kumar Gupta and three others, all occupants of the apartment, had approached Prestige Estates Projects Pvt Ltd complaining about the loud noise which is causing hearing impairment, hypertension, heart related diseases, annoyance, sleep disturbance to the occupants of the apartment. 

Following a complaint to the State pollution control board, the noise levels were recorded at 58-70 dB (decibels) during day and night. As per the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, the noise levels should not exceed 55 dB in the night and 45 dB in residential areas.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath ordered notice and adjourned the hearing.
