To prove themselves, to motivate their counterparts and to promote the art among schoolchildren, arts teachers have organised ‘Kalarava’, an art expo, in the City.

The works of 27 art teachers from different government high schools in the district have come alive in the expo at Suchitra Art Gallery in Kalamandira. The expo will be open till Sunday.

The teachers have displayed 57 varieties of their art works, like oil paintings, acrylic painting, landscapes, miniatures, nature, personalities and rural life. A depiction of the century-old Lansdowne building is drawing the attention of a large number of visitors.

Sharanya Rakshat, a visitor, said, “The works are attractive. I have never heard school teachers coming together to display their art works and the expo shows the teachers’ interest and passion for their profession.”

The expo is a great opportunity for teachers to be active and also to learn more about the art. “If we are active, our students will be enthusiastic. Such events will motivate us to do more and keep us creative,” says G B Sangeetha of G B Sargur in HD Kote taluk.

“We teach a variety of art works to students, but, we hardly get any platform to demonstrate our skills,” said Poornandapriya of B Mathkere school in HD Kote. The teachers feel that the event is a great learning process by exchanging thoughts and medium of art of all teachers. “Every teacher has one’s own style and ideas of drawing, exchanging the ideas polish our skills,” said D M Veeresh, another teacher.

The teachers were feeling proud as they got appreciation from a large number of visitors, colleagues and higher officials. “Many a times, our colleagues are unaware of our works and have a negative feeling about art teachers. Through this expo, we have proved our interest, talent and importance of arts,” said another participant.

All over, 120 art teachers are working in different schools in Mysuru district. In order to provide a platform for art teachers across the State, the team will organise expos regularly. The team has an idea to organise a State-level expo by the end of 2016-17 academic year, said G Harish of Yerganahalli Government High School.
