Last Updated 09 February 2016, 19:40 IST

A BBMP worker died after the garbage disposal vehicle that he was driving toppled and fell into a pit when he was unloading trash at BHEL Colony in Mallasandra recently.

The deceased has been identified as Narasappa, 35, a native of Andhra Pradesh. He was residing in Mallasandra and was working as a pourakarmika with the BBMP for the five years.

On February 6, he went to an abandoned quarry to unload garbage. When he was unloading trash, the autorickshaw tipper slipped and fell into the pit. Fellow workers, who witnessed the incident, rushed to his rescue and pulled him out of the 25-foot pit.
They shifted him to a nearby private hospital, from where he was shifted to Victoria Hospital. On Monday evening, he succumbed to his injuries, added the police. A senior police officer said that the incident occurred because Narasappa had parked the vehicle very close to the pit.

A case has been registered at the Peenya traffic police station.
