Programme to sensitise industries to go green

Last Updated 15 February 2016, 18:30 IST

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will conduct an awareness programme on ‘Green Companies’ on February 17 at 2.30 pm, at JK Tyre and Industries, Vikrant Tyre Plant-1, KRS Road, Metagalli. The objective of the programme is to sensitise the industries in Mysuru about the best practices followed by leading manufacturing companies and highlight the benefits that can be achieved by going green.

Going green makes strong business sense. It is encouraging that the Indian industry is gearing up to address ecological issues and concerns, and is offering vibrant and robust solutions to the global community. Though leaders on green business are facilitating ecologically superior and economically viable business models, adding impetus to this paradigm shift is ‘Make in India’ campaign of the Union government, which intrinsically focuses on encouraging green growth models and innovations, says a press note from the Mysuru chapter of CII.

On the corporate side, the CII has initiated ‘GreenCo’ rating for companies based on their environmental performance across nine parameters, including energy efficiency, water conservation, use of renewable energy and waste management.

Experts say, it is more advanced than the ISO 14000 certification. In future, the CII hopes to forge vibrant partnerships with stakeholders and explore new growth opportunities.

The highlights of the ‘Green Companies’ programme are—to introduce the concept of ‘Green Company’ and showcase world-class green initiatives from leading manufacturing companies, to introduce GreenCo certification to companies to assess ‘how green a company is’ and highlight the way forward towards world-class competitiveness and to share case studies from leading service providers to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emission in the processes, using latest and efficient technologies.
