Poll officials locked for a night

Shahapur (Yadgir district): A few persons suspected to be members of a political party, locked up election personnel at Shivapura village in the taluk on Friday night.

According to police, the sector officer and two other officials deputed on election duty had visited the village on Friday night following the information that money was being distributed to lure voters on the eve of polling for taluk and zilla panchayat elections.

Even as the officials were inquiring local people, a verbal due ensued and a group of men attacked them and damaged the windshield of their vehicle. They locked the officials throughout night.

A complaint has been registered at Vadigera police station against 50 persons on the charges of destruction of public property and obstructing government servants from discharging their duties.

Meanwhile, a minor scuffle had ensued between BJP and Congress workers at Banatihala village in the taluk. Police rushed to the spot and pacified the warring groups.
