The Congress has held the BJP, which is ruling Haryana and the Centre, responsible for the violence unleashed by the Jat community in Haryana to press their demand for reservation and accused the saffron party of dividing the state on the lines of caste for political gains.

A number of Congress leaders, MLAs and MPs, including former chief minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda and former Union minister Kumari Selja, also went on to sit on a day-long fast here at Jantar Mantar, urging for restoration of “calm and amity” in the violence-hit state.

“The BJP governments, whether at the Centre or states, are dividing people on religious and regional lines and unfortunately in Haryana, the land of Gods, it is dividing the state on caste lines,” party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, who hails from Haryana, said.
