A day ahead of the crucial Arunachal Pradesh Assembly session on Thursday when Chief Minister Kalikho Pul will face a floor test,  nine Congress MLAs who were with former chief minister Nabam Tuki switched sides and offered to support him.

After Pul was sworn-in on February 19, Congress MLA Likha Saaya switched to Pul’s camp. Another MLA Punji Mara followed suit. The Nabam Tuki camp received a further blow on Wednesday when seven other Congressmen from his camp - Takam Pario, Punji Mara, Gojen Gadi, Jomde Kena, Likha Saaya, Shri Jambey Tashi, Gum Tayeng, Tirong Aboh, Tapak Taku went to meet Pul and offered him their support.

Later in the evening Pul called a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the state capital Itanagar where 28 Congress legislators attended. Pul was elected the leader of the CLP.

The Congress high command had sent an advisory to party MLAs not to attend the CLP meeting. The chief whip of Congress in the state Assembly Rajesh Tacho issued a whip but only 17  Congress MLAs including former chief minister Nabam Tuki abide by the whip.

Out of 45 Congress MLAs, 28 Congress MLAs attended the meeting to show their support to Pul. He also has the support of 11 BJP MLAs and 2 independent lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Wangki Lowang, the Congress MLA from Namsang has filed his nomination for the post of Speaker. The Supreme Court is yet to pass its judgment on whether the actions of the governor and the deputy speaker were constitutional correct or not in calling the special session of the Assembly on December 16-17, 2015.
