Sandalwood actress Sindhu Loknath has always tried to keep it different when it comes to the roles she plays. She was last seen on screen in ‘Rakshasi’, where she made a cameo appearance. While film buffs might be wondering if she is being too choosy, the young actress clarifies that she likes variety and that’s what she was waiting for.

“The response I got for my role in ‘Rakshasi’ was appreciable. The character I played in the movie was similar to what I had played before, but it was a horror film. I remember people telling me that they had gone to see the movie expecting more of me,” she says.
Sindhu was also seen in a cameo role in ‘Mr Airavata’ and she says she did the role because AP Arjun, the director was her good friend. Her last full-fledged role was ‘Love in Mandya’.

She avers, “I got a lot of roles after that movie which were similar to the one I was featured in. It was either laid-back roles or love stories and I didn’t want to restrict myself to just that. I don’t like doing the same thing. I want to experiment and don’t mind working with newcomers or anyone as long as the subject interests me.”

Sindhu wants to do projects that challenge her. “The project one takes up must push one to work towards it. If that drive isn’t there, there is no point working for the role. I was waiting for the perfect role and didn’t realise that an year has passed by,” she says. Ask the actress what she has been busy with and she says, “I have been busy with my trekking expeditions. I trekked to Kumara Parvatha and Kudremukh in the State, and Ahobilam, Andhra Pradesh in the first part of the year. In August, I went to Stok Kangri summit, Ladakh. I was always a wild-spirited person and have been trekking for the last six years.”

She has always been concerned about fitness and she regularly visits the gym and practices yoga. “Thus I never have to intensely prepare myself for a trek. I am forever ready for an adventure,” she says with a smile. Her next goal is to go to Mount Kilimanjaro. “I am excited and nervous because it will be my first time to South Africa. The bookings aren’t open yet and it will be a difficult hike. I’m really excited about crossing different terrains — from desert to grasslands and from forest to snow,” she says. Sindhu aims to go for a solo trek to Mt Everest soon.

On the film front, Sindhu has signed a Malayalam movie, which will be directed by Mothy Kaikeran and produced by Dinesh Nachappa, who is from Bengaluru. “I have heard that great stories are explored in the Malayalam industry. When I heard the storyline and about my character, I agreed instantly. It is not just a commercial movie but an offbeat one,” she says. Detailing about her role, Sindhu says, “The movie is about a journalism student who goes into the forest to do some research. I will be playing the role of an extremely rich and spoilt girl who goes through a transformation. The movie shows me in three characters — the story starts with me as a 40-year-old woman narrating the story, a spoilt brat and then her transformed self.”

The actress was apprehensive about taking the project, since she isn’t proficient in the language.

She says, “I feel one needs to know what one is speaking to emote well. I don’t understand the language well and have been going for classes, as it is very important for me to understand the words. The film is a woman-oriented role and I want to do justice to it.”
