Subhan Sharif, honorary secretary of Al-Ameen Educational Society, on Friday urged Police Commissioner N S Megharik to ensure the arrest of two men who he said had “masterminded” the assault on him and his son on December 31 last year.

Sharif requested Megharik to instruct the jurisdictional SR Nagar police to arrest Imtiaz Pasha and J Shafiulla, whose “role” emerged during the interrogation of some suspects. Sharif and his son Salam Sharif were allegedly assaulted on the Richmond Circle flyover around 10 pm on New Year’s Eve when they were returning home by car.

Sharif said the police had arrested the suspected contract killer Shanawaz, Ayub Khan and Saddam. They detained some others and interrogated them.

Sharif, who was re-elected honorary secretary last year, said some internal elements were planning to take “financial and administrative control” of the educational society once his tenure ended. He said he was living under “constant threat” from the two prime suspects.

The principal of Al-Ameen Science, Arts and Commerce College submitted a petition to the Wilson Garden police on February 23, seeking action against Pasha, saying he often visited the campus and “threatened” the staff and the students. Pasha and Shafiulla are said to be close associates of a former Union minister and work at his behest, said a source in the educational society.
