Palike chief appoints himself, 197 others as SWM nodal officers

BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik has appointed a nodal officer each for the 198 wards in the City, for solid waste management.

Also, Naik has designated himself as the nodal officer of Radha Krishna Temple ward in Hebbal Assembly constituency. The other nodal officers will be the IAS and IFS officers in the BBMP, chief engineers and zonal joint commissioners.

The nodal officers will report the status of infrastructure, potholes, health and cleanliness in their respective wards. The officers have been asked to visit the areas on a daily basis, speak to the public representatives as well as citizens, get updates on the civic problems faced by them and find quick solutions to them.

Special commissioner (welfare) V Rashmi will be the in charge of Subhash Nagar, special commissioner (SWM) Subodh Yadav will be the nodal officer of Sanjay Nagar, special commissioner (planning) Dr J Ravishankar – Bellandur ward, special commissioner (finance) Kumar Pushkar – Attur, additional commissioner (Administration) Hemaji Naik – Vijayanagar and so on.

The list of officers range from the Commissioner to the assistant commissioner, health officers and executive engineers.

These appointments are based on the directions by the Chief Secretary Arvind Jadhav who had expressed his unhappiness over the poor waste disposal system at a meeting on March 10.

He was also disappointed over the lack of a proper monitoring system of the works at the ground level.
