Nitish to move back to CM's residence

Last Updated 23 March 2016, 20:16 IST
Nearly two years after Nitish Kumar vacated the official residence of chief minister, after quitting following the Lok Sabha poll debacle, he is planning to move back there soon.

At present, the chief minister is staying at 7, Circular Road, not far from 1, Aney Marg—the official residence of the chief minister, where his successor in 2014, Jitan Ram Manjhi stayed till June 2015.

Since then, the VVIP house has remained unoccupied although Nitish has been holding Janata Durbar on the sprawling campus of 1, Aney Marg, while he himself stays at 7, Circular Road.

Spread over five acres of land, the Aney Marg Bungalow is located near Raj Bhavan and the road (now blocked for security reasons) has been named after the second governor of Bihar, Madhav Srihari Aney, who served on the gubernatorial post from 1948 to 1952.

After vacating 1, Aney Marg in May 2014, Nitish moved to a relatively small government accommodation— 2M Strand Road. But given his fondness for the number 7, a fresh government bungalow at 7, Circular Road, was readied in no time where Nitish moved in to become the neighbour of Lalu-Rabri, who stayed at 10, Circular Road.

Meanwhile, the official residence of the chief minister was mired into a row last year when Manjhi refused to vacate it despite being thrown out of office in February 2015.
